Provide Needed Items
Lutheran Homes Society operates a personal care pantry that stocks only non-food items, such as paper products and soaps. These items are often too expensive for seniors living on a tight budget to buy, since they are not covered by public assistance programs. The pantry is available to LHS housing residents and seniors in the community through a social worker or social service agency referral.
Personal care items need to be new and unopened, while some household supplies and durable medical equipment can be donated gently used.
The following items are needed at this time:
- Toothpaste and toothbrushes
- Hand soap
- Shampoo and conditioner
- Toilet paper
- Paper Towels
- Laundry detergent
- Dish soap
- Dish towels
- Pots and pans

The LHS Pantry Helped Susie
During her initial visit with the Service Coordinator at her new LHS housing site, “Susie” mentioned that she had moved into her apartment from out of state. Susie also shared that she had not been able to bring all of her belongings and, as a result, did not have many of her kitchen utensils or other cooking items. This was making it difficult for her to be able to prepare meals.
After hearing this, the Service Coordinator checked the LHS Pantry for items that might be helpful to Susie. The coordinator was able to give Susie some pots and pans, kitchen utensils, and a microwave. Susie was thrilled to receive these items and is now able to prepare meals in her new apartment.
The LHS Pantry made a significant difference in Susie’s life, helping her to get settled in her new home, and it can touch the lives of many other older adults through your generous donations.
