Independent Living

Established in 1981, Lutheran Housing Services provides safe, clean, and affordable housing and basic social services to more than 670 adults, primarily 62 years and older, in facilities located throughout northwestern Ohio and southeastern Michigan. Many of these independent living apartments are federally subsidized, so residents pay just 30% of their income for rent. Other housing units were built using tax credits, which also help provide affordable housing to those in need. Locations include:

Independent Living Residences

Low to Moderate Income Apartments

Since 1981, Lutheran Homes Society's Lutheran Housing Services has provided well-maintained, clean and affordable housing for the elderly.

Independent Living Apartments are located throughout northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. Many of the units are federally subsidized which means that residents pay 30% of their adjusted income for rent. Rent includes all utilities, except telephone. Some communities were built using tax credits, which also keeps the cost of housing affordable.

Social, religious, and special activity programs are the focal point of each independent living environment. Pictured at left, a health fair held at Luther Haus, attracts community members and residents alike for free health screenings. At each of the communities, a social services coordinator is on site to help residents with tasks such as procuring meals, home healthcare, and housekeeping - all of which help in maintaining one’s independence.

Market Rate Apartments

Lutheran Housing Services' market rate housing adds a new dimension to Lutheran Homes Society’s independent living. Social, religious and activity programs remain the focus and residents are provided with daily meals, and all utilities and services, except telephone, for one reasonable rate. There are no income limitations.

Market Rate Residences

Lutheran Homes Society campuses in Holland and Napoleon have market rate residences available on campus. These residences feature a kitchenette, ample living and closet space and either underground parking or an attached garage. Located adjacent to assisted living and  extended care, they offer independence with the security of knowing additional care is available if needed.
