Mission Statement

We are called by God to link seniors of all faiths with available community services to promote independent and healthy aging.

Recognizing the need to reach out to seniors within the Toledo area, Lutheran Homes Society has responded with a benevolent ministry known as LINCS. The Lutheran Interfaith Network of Caring Services strives to "link" seniors living in their own homes with appropriate community services that will enable them to remain independent.

LINCS' goal is to assist those seniors who do not have the financial means to pay a private company to assist them in obtaining services.

LINCS works with area organizations to coordinate services for seniors living in the community. Organizations include:

Alzheimer’s Association
Area Office on Aging
Home health care agencies
Lutheran Social Services
Mobile Meals

The LINCS coordinator assists seniors and their families to obtain needed services such as:

adult day care
home delivered meals
housekeeping assistance
legal services
transportation to medical appointments

Additionally as an OSHIIP (Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program) counselor, the coordinator is able to assist seniors with medical bills, Medicare, Medicaid or health insurance questions.

There is no charge for the services of the LINCS coordinator; however, there may be a fee for the services obtained for the senior.

Referrals are accepted for any senior residing in the community. Area clergy, parish nurses, and community outreach groups are welcome to refer seniors to this program. The LINCS ministry is also be available to assist churches develop programs to meet the needs of seniors in their congregation.

Upon referral, the LINCS coordinator will make a home visit, assess the needs of the senior and make referrals to appropriate agencies. The coordinator will follow up with the senior as needed to determine if the services are desired and appropriate.

Information shared with the LINCS coordinator is confidential and will not be released without the written consent of the client.

Lutheran Homes Society to Hold 148th Annual Meeting of Member Congregations

HOLLAND, Ohio, February 19, 2008 – Lutheran Homes Society (LHS) will hold its 148^th Annual Meeting of member congregations on Monday, April 21, 2008, at Providence Lutheran Church, 8131 Airport Highway, Holland, Ohio. The featured speaker will be Andrew Genszler, Director of Advocacy for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). His talk is titled “Speaking for Your Neighbor – Lutheran Advocacy.”

Registration and a buffet will begin at 5:30 p.m. Starting at 6:30 p.m., a worship service and the annual meeting will be held, followed by a dessert reception. Information on the various LHS ministries will be on display throughout the evening.

Lutheran Homes Society has been serving the needs of the youth and elderly since 1860. Today, more than 2,200 individuals located throughout northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan benefit from the residential and community services offered by LHS.

Lutheran Homes Society Names New Executive Director for Lutheran Memorial Home

HOLLAND, Ohio, February 7, 2008 – Lutheran Homes Society (LHS) announces the appointment of Steve Dumke as Executive Director of Lutheran Memorial Home, a 76-bed extended care facility in Sandusky, Ohio.

For the last three years, Mr. Dumke has served as Assistant Administrator at Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek, an LHS continuing care retirement community in Holland, Ohio. Prior, he was Director of Human Resources at Wolf Creek.

As Executive Director, Mr. Dumke will be responsible for the ongoing operations, community relations, and business development at Lutheran Memorial Home. He also will handle coordination of business strategies with other ministries within Lutheran Homes Society.

“We are pleased that Mr. Dumke will bring his dedication to ministry to the elderly and his leadership gifts to the Sandusky team,” stated David Roberts, President/CEO of Lutheran Homes Society.

Mr. Dumke, who is married to wife Jessica, is a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA). He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University and received his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Toledo.

“I am looking forward to interacting with the residents and working with the staff to make a difference in these people’s lives,” Mr. Dumke said. “I want to play a role in improving the residents’ quality of life.”
